DENY AMERICANS THE RIGHT TO KNOW – THE DARK ACT

Friday, August 7th, 2015

In the face of grassroots action across the country, states like Maine, Connecticut, and Vermont have already passed GMO labeling laws.  In response, industry groups have crafted the Deny Americans the Right to Know (DARK Act), a bill that would prevent states from passing laws to label genetically engineered foods and keep the public in the dark.

Write a letter to your state Legislators to tell them that we have a right to know which foods are genetically engineered.  Mention the following points:

  • As our Senator, we need you to oppose the senate equivalent of the DARK Act and stand up to industry attacks on our right to know.
  • Genetically engineered foods are a huge part of the American food supply but they have not been tested for long-term impacts on human and environmental health.
  • Consumers can’t make good choices about the food they eat without labeling.
  • I support strong state and federal legislation that protects our right to know what is in our food.

Be sure to include your name and address on your letters so they know you are a constituent.
